financing the very terrorists who mean to destroy us.
Funny how you can state a blunt truth
and nobody so much as raises an eyebrow. Tell the same truth with a picture and
the thought police have a hissy fit and shut you down.
So why would I
want to upset sensitive souls with the shocking imagery of an oil-laden
airliner bearing down on our people?
Here's why: the fear
response.
This nation was threatened with a
German war machine that was working on an atomic bomb and we recognized the
threat and recruited American brainpower to give us the Manhattan Project.
In 1957 the Soviet Union caught
us flat-footed by launching Sputnik, we were TERRIFIED. And we used it. Hardly
had our hackles calmed down before we strode to the head of the international
class in rocketry and a commitment to beat the Russians to the moon.
Three decades ago we had an oil crisis
that was a clarion call to energy independence.
Today, despite well-intentioned and
under-funded nibbling about the edges of our energy dependence, we are more at
risk than we were in the after shocks of 9/11.
